Solar Proposal Redesign
Functionality Sales Reps Will Love
Overview
A solar proposal is the bread and butter for the company I worked for. The previous design was clunky and worked poorly on mobile.
The goal of this project was to redesign the proposal and identify any issues that that can stop a solar sales person from using any device to present the sales proposal.
Role
Product Designer
Understanding the problem
The proposal is what shows the solar design and display the savings you can potentially get with solar. The sales rep will leave the homeowners with a link to the proposal so the homeowners can review it when the sales rep isn't present.
Many sales rep that have used our product expressed their frustration with using it on a mobile device. The proposal isn't responsive and will just scale down so on mobile, the proposal will be too small to read. Especially because a homeowner would much rather open the proposal on their mobile device.
My research encompassed:
-
Understanding the user goals and needs
-
Uncovering pain points with the existing user journey
-
Determining the success of the tasks measured
Discovery
Before we went forward with the design, we had a talk about the true need of a mobile version of our product. We went through our data to see how many people actually try to view of products through a mobile device.
These are the data we found:
-
40% of our user tried opening it by a mobile device first
-
30% through a desktop
-
20% through a tablet (mainly from the sales rep)
Brainstorm
From what I found out, I started sketching and ideating ways I can execute this.. I tore apart the original proposal and figured out what was necessary and what isn't. And how to section off the proposal in a way that made sense.
My Sketches

The Design
The final iteration I did broke the proposal into three sections; Solar Design , Your Savings, and Finance. It was to make it easier for homeowners to consume the information instead of the long single page scroll that we currently have.
